The Chapter 13 Trustee for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, Jack N. Zaharopoulos, is accepting applications from qualified individuals for full-time employment as a Staff Attorney in the Trustee’s office located in Hummelstown, Pennsylvania (midpoint between Hershey and Harrisburg).

The Staff Attorney works under the direction of the Chapter 13 Trustee, alongside two other Staff Attorneys, paralegals and legal assistants. The position requires regular appearances on behalf of the Trustee at formal hearings before the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Representing the Trustee at hearings before the United States Bankruptcy Court, the United States District Court, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
Conducting meetings of creditors pursuant to 11 U.S.C. § 341.
Reviewing bankruptcy petitions, pleadings, statements, applications, plans, motions, and other documents for legal sufficiency, and initiating or recommending appropriate strategies to the Trustee.
Performing legal research and preparing briefs, responses, objections to confirmation, and other legal memoranda for the Trustee.
Responding to inquiries from attorneys, debtors, creditors, court personnel, and the public regarding Chapter 13 cases assigned to the Trustee.
The Staff Attorney must assist the Trustee in complying with all provisions of the United States Bankruptcy Code and the Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure.
Occasional intra-district travel will be required; however, overnight travel—other than for training purposes—is expected to be infrequent. The ability to work autonomously is required.
Requirements
The applicant must not be related to the United States Trustee or the Assistant United States Trustee for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, or to a Bankruptcy Judge, District Judge, or the Clerk of the Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
Must be an attorney in good standing in each jurisdiction in which the applicant is admitted.
Must be admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and before the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, or be eligible for such admission.
Must possess superior analytical, research, and writing skills.
Must be free of prejudices against any individual, entity, or group that would interfere with the unbiased performance of the Staff Attorney’s duties.
Must demonstrate, by demeanor, character, and personality, the ability to competently assist the Trustee in performing and discharging required duties.
Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products and computer-assisted legal research platforms.
Proficiency with the Court Management/Electronic Case Filing (CM/ECF) system is highly desirable.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to handle a high-volume caseload and provide in-house legal assistance to non-legal staff.
